the son of ruth jackson. wenzel was born june 15th, 1956 and was raised in san francisco visitacion valley community. he's a graduate of woodrow wilson high school and participated in team sports such as tennis and softball. he worked at merrill lynch 15 years where he developed his management skills and later left corporate life to pursue his calling in pastoral ministry. he leaves behind to cherish his memory his best friend and his loving wife tamara hall man jackson, his parents of washington, d.c., and ruth jackson, also affectionately known as polly. she's a leader right here in our own visitacion valley community. he left behind four brothers, brian, drew, james, and lorenzo and one brother-in-law, raphael who resides in hollywood, california. so, please join me in lifting up our dear friend and sister ruth jackson as she mourns the loss of one of her children. on another note, another sad note, i also want to lift up another mother of the bayview community that has lost her son. many of you know ms. espinola jackson. she recently lost her daughter to a battle of cancer. ms. yvonne

in the nation, san francisco topped the list with workers making $10.55 an hour and santa fe, new mexico, people are paid $10.51 for minimum wake and now san jose is the third highest in the nation paying workers $10 an hour according to the united states department of labor. we understand of course with this wage hike, leaders will have a new push for the customers and workers that make the extra money to try and keep that money here in san jose by spending it here in the city. live in san jose for sue thompson, for abc7 news. >> in san francisco police are investigating a horrifying accident at a bart station. abc7 news was the first to bring you the story last night. police say a man died after getting crushed on top of the elevator at the montgomery bart station. a man in the elevator called after the elevator was stuck, emergency crews responded and found the victim. they found bedding on top of the elevator car and think he was sloping inside the elevator shaft. our news reporter is at the scene and will have the latest for us at 5:30. >> police in daly city are trying to determine if spee

this easter sunday gathering at san francisco's highest peak for a sunrise service. we're live on mount davidson with more. >> reporter: good morning, carolyn. that sunrise service here ended just about an hour ago. now we have mount davidson to ourselves. the ceremony was majestic. we're at the canopy of trees and it was at the base of this cross, san francisco's highest peak. it began with bagpipers. take a listen. ♪ hundreds of people, families, friends, religious and spiritual made the pilgrimage through the woods and rugged terrain to begin their southeast sunday in prayer and celebration. they started coming about 5:00 this morning. the morning's sunrise service was the 91st anniversary of the early morning tradition. for many, it's an annual journey to mount davidson. the area residents and a family from san diego came here to take in the splendor. >> a wonderful time of worship with everyone coming together with other churches to celebrate jesus christ risen, it's amazing. i'm grateful to be here. >> coming here is going to be a great experience because we're close to nature,

30 minutes. >> an uncertain morning for people in the san francisco neighborhood as sink holes have open up a week after a water main break. sue thompson is live at the scene. how does it look right now? >> i can tell you right now a lot of neighbors here are really watching and waiting because the forecast today calls for rain and that is not good news for so many homeowners out here in this neighborhood that are battling sinkholes. this has been going on for days. the problem developed last wednesday when a city water main broke. the gushing water triggered sinkholes new up to five sinkholes. they have already damaged about a dozen homes, literally many are caving in, room by room. up to four homes have been red tagged. the city of san francisco says they will pay for repairs but the problem, now, is the forecast. the rain could be arriving this evening and it will add to the sing homes because the ground, the city says, is not stage and more water will not help. >> first, it was about this much. the following day, it began, you know, it looked like this hole now, this size. then

, march 5th. gasia is out to want. this is bay area news at 7:00. happening now vigil in san francisco for the late venezuelan president, hugo chavez. word that chavez lost his struggle with cancer came late this afternoon and within a couple of hours had gathered for a rally in his honor. despite chavez's anti-american views, the organizer of the rally said they had come to celebrate the life of quote an incredible man. chavez was 58 years old and ruled venezuela for 14 years. as steve reports, chavez counted the united states as one of his enmys. >> the socialist leader underwent lengthy treatment in cuba for an undisclosed form of cancer having at least three operations including one to remove a tumor he described as the size of a baseball from his abdomen. his frequent absences from public view led the widespread rumors about his health and stood in mark contrast to his usual style of appearing on television for hours at a time, speaking, reading and occasionally singing. chavez introduced a new constitution and attempted to consolidate power but his radical moves led to street pro

in for gasia mikaelian. we will get to that story in a minute. but first a gas leak in san francisco that caused the evacuation of four buildings and a shelter in place at a hospital is just coming to an end. a 2-inch gas main this afternoon collapsed because of construction work. it happened at san jose avenue and duncan street near st. luke's hospital. now we just spoke to a pg & e official who says the pipe broke after a construction crew dug a deep trench without shoring up the wall. the pipe twisted and broke. this all happened around 3:15 and pg & e crews stopped the flow of gas in about an hour. the evacuations and shelter in place order were lifted in the last hour. streets in the area have also been reopened but four apartment buildings are without gas but repairs should be finished by 7:00 tonight. >>> now back to the death of venezuelan president hugo chavez. he's been sick for some time and he was only 58 years old. robert handa is live with the reaction of the venezuelan community here. >> reporter: well today that atmosphere shifted a bit as news came that the venezuel
. >> thank you, kris. outside for a live look at san francisco where the clouds are starting to roll right into the bay area. chief meteorologist jeff ranieri has been tracking this storm and, jeff, moving in within the next hour or so? >> at least two hours. going to be slow moving tonight. the north bay will see that rainfall first. we will get some rainfall first. if you are heading out to see the bay bridge lit up throughout this evening, you are going to want to bring that umbrella and also jacket. you can see our cold front is elongated, tapping into pacific moisture and this is very rare for 2013. yes, it is not a big storm system but this is big news because of how dry we have been. you can see right up into the north bay we're starting to get a few showers near santa rosa. nothing overly heavy right now. near bodega bay, some very light showers. santa rosa over the next 30 minutes and then gradually the rain will be stepping off to the south. the other component of this is also the wind. 15 to 30 miles per hour at the coastline and the winds primarily coming out of the south will

less drama in san francisco where people are enjoying a new sight in the skyline. last night they turned on the lights for a massive public art installation that illuminates the san francisco oakland bay bridge. john blackstone spoke with the artist. >> reporter: the lights moving poetically across a two-mile span across the oakland bay bridge are the creation of artist nathan villarreal. on his laptop he put the latest touches that transforms the bridge into a light sculpture. >> this is a unique opportunity. 50 million people will see this over two years. it's something anyone can see and engage with. >> reporter: electricians spent four months in the wind and the cold installing 25,000 l.e.d. lights, each individually programmed to a fiberoptic network. villarreal then began sculptoring the light into patterns he says will never look exactly the same. it changes constantly. how do you do that? >> well, using software. there are sequences which will be displayed in random order in random amount of time. some may recognize the same passage but never i
